Carlos Alcaraz injury concerns

Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the Monte-Carlo Masters, just one day before he was scheduled to face Felix Auger-Aliassime in his opening match. The world number three raised injury concerns when he strapped his right forearm during tournament practice sessions. Alcaraz announced his late withdrawal in a social media post on Tuesday. “I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play,” he wrote. Alcaraz wrote on social media. “I was really looking forward to playing… See you next year! @ROLEXMCMASTERS @atptour”

The Spaniard found his form during the North American hard-court swing, successfully defending his title at the BNP Paribas Open before falling to in-form 2017 Nitto ATP Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open presented by Itau.

Following the Spaniard’s withdrawal, Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego gets entry into the main draw as a lucky loser and faces Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round.

Third-seeded Alcaraz had also missed last year’s edition.

Two-time Major winner Alcaraz has a 15-4 win-loss record this season which includes his successful title defence in Indian Wells.
