Pittsburgh Steelers Color Rush uniforms will be on display for Thursday night’s game against the New England Patriots, and the team is calling for fans to wear black as well.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will rock their Color Rush uniforms in Week 14 .
The Steelers are breaking out their Color Rush uniforms for the first time this season as they host New England. The black jerseys with gold numbers and gold stripes will match up with black pants with a gold stripe, looking to add a spark to their AFC showdown.
The Steelers are 7-2 in the uniforms that feature black jerseys and pants with gold block numbers, striping down the pants legs and striping high on the sleeve. First worn for a Christmas game against the Baltimore Ravens in 2016, the Steelers have donned the uniforms at least once per season since.

In what is believed to be a first, the team is calling for fans to wear black to the game. A news release regarding the choice of uniform for Thursday’s game included a passage that read, “Fans attending Thursday Night Football are encouraged to wear black to support the Color Rush Blackout at Acrisure Stadium.”

The Steelers first wore the uniforms on Christmas Day in 2016 when they defeated the Baltimore Ravens, 31-27, to win the AFC North. The team also wore them in 2017 against the Tennessee Titans, a 40-17 win.
In 2018 the team wore them twice, the first time on Thursday Night Football when they defeated the Carolina Panthers, 52-21. They wore them a second time against the New England Patriots, a 17-10 win.
The team also wore them twice in 2019, including in a win over the Miami Dolphins, 27-14, on Monday Night Football. In 2020 the Steelers defeated the Ravens, 19-14, in a Color Rush game. They defeated the Chicago Bears wearing them in 2021.
When asked about wearing the Color Rush jerseys, several Steelers players said they’re excited to wear them.
“I like the Color Rush. I like that it’s simple, but still looks old school at the same time,” said Minkah Fitzpatrick. “I like the all black look. I usually wear all black no matter what. Wearing it at night, it adds to the atmosphere for sure.”
“I love the uniform,” said Pat Freiermuth. “It’s obviously different than our normal one. It’s fun to rep. It’s fun to wear. It’s awesome wearing it running out of the tunnel, especially for a night game. It’s so cool to wear it in that home atmosphere. I think the whole city likes to rep it as well.”
“I love the uniform,” tight end Pat Freiermuth told Steelers.com “It’s obviously different than our normal one. It’s fun to rep. It’s fun to wear. It’s awesome wearing it running out of the tunnel, especially for a night game. It’s so cool to wear it in that home atmosphere.”
The Steelers will look to bounce back from their loss to Arizona with a win over the Patriots. And if you live by the saying, “look good, play good,” Pittsburgh is giving themselves an advantage.
The Color Rush uniform has become a favorite with players and fans alike, a monochromatic look that was first introduced to wear primarily on Thursday Night Football.
In addition to wearing the black and gold Color Rush uniforms, the Steelers also announced that the endzones at Acrisure Stadium have been painted gold.
Last season, the endzones were painted gold in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception and the paint job was very popular among Steelers fans.
The Penguins, in recent years, regularly have had “whiteouts” for playoff games, and the Pirates encouraged fan “blackouts” during their 2013 playoff run (and again on Opening Day this year while celebrating the 2013 team).
Penn State football annually has a whiteout as well.
